The Internet is presenting a whole new set of IT security challenges for enterprises that need to be incorporated into their approach to threat & vulnerability analysis. Whether it is direct attacks on online business operations, such as e-commerce or customer service, or attacks that leverage the Internet to access the corporate network, Internet-based attacks pose some of the greatest threats to business continuity and security. In addition, as the cyber criminals look for vulnerabilities to expose, their attention is increasingly being focused on the Domain Name System (DNS).
Neustar’s Threat Intelligence Group estimates that every week between 15-20 medium enterprises are each losing $150,000 due to cyber-based fraud from just ONE form of malware. Cybercrimes reported to the FBI alone amounted to $270 million in 2008. Furthermore, the Conficker Working Group is reporting that over 6 million devices are now infected by Conficker, many of which are located in enterprises.
In this executive roundtable, security experts provide an overview of the Internet and network threat landscape and offer insights into how to incorporate Internet security threats into your current threat & vulnerability analysis framework. We’ll also address the human side of Internet security and discuss how IT professionals can strengthen their business skills so they can get CEOs and CFOs to understand how security strategies and technologies align with business goals.
Internet security thought leader Rodney Joffe, senior VP and Chief Technologist for Neustar, fresh from his recent Whitehouse and Congressional briefings and testimony in front of Congress, will provide an update on the latest DNS security threats to the enterprise and how Neustar is addressing them, including DNS-based Botnet, Malware and DDoS attacks and DNS cache poisoning. In his role as Director of the Conficker Working Group, Rodney will provide the details behind the headlines on this growing but still little understood threat. Noted security and risk-management analyst John Pironti will focus on how traditional threat & vulnerability analysis needs to be applied to Web-based Internet applications and services.
Issues discussed include:
- How to incorporate Internet security threats into your current threat & vulnerability analysis framework
- A better understanding of the motivations behind hacks and other malicious attacks
- Why developing an effective security strategy is so difficult
- An update on the latest DNS-based security threats
- How Neustar UltraDNS Services address these threats for customers
- The very latest update on the threat from Conficker
